A 49 year old male presents with a history of chronic digestive disturbances, including constipation and discomfort. Manual muscle testing revealed a weak left rectus femoris (3/5) which was not improved by spindle cell stretching of the muscle belly (autogenic facilitation.) Upon questioning, the patient related a history of injury to the left lateral mid rib cage. Rubbing over the area of injury normalized the left rectus femoris function and conversely, stimulation of the rib cage in conjunction with the left talus IRT challenge caused a strong muscle to weaken. IRT correction normalized muscle function. The patient related that his intestinal problems came on after the old rib injury.
